"From the Left Coast comes Snake Suspenderz with their "Preliminary Slither" CD. This Seattle-based duo consists of Howlin' Hobbit on 'ukulele and Thaddeus Spae on trombone. Both these cats provide vocals and play a variety of instruments on this multi-track production. The overall feeling is hip, bluesy, a bit louche, and very tight musically. They do a great rendition of "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out". The originals are wry with a twist, and while Howlin Hobbit's whiskey-and-reefer voice doesn't make me think "I wanna see this guy naked" it is an album one can listen to repeatedly without getting bored. Well worth your hard-earned shekels, and available thru www.snakesuspenderz.com"
"The next CD is Preliminary Slither by Snake Suspenderz, street minstrels from Seattle whose spellcheck has broken. I have never heard Snake Suspenderz live, which I imagine might take place on a street corner or in a bar, but I imagine that it would be fun. Where many Jazz and Blues recordings sound too rehearsed, this CD captures the spontaneity of a live street performance. The Gravely yawp of Howlin' Hobbit provides a nice contrast to the lazy croon of Thaddeus Spae. Both possess fine scat skills as well.
Their voices also blend well, as do their various instrumental combinations-Thad primarily on Trombone, Howlin' Hobbit on ukulele. The two are multi-instrumentalists, playing a variety of combinations including guitar, tub bass, harmonica, and pocket saxophone.
Songs that stand out are "Slow Boat to China", "Keepin' Up with My Jones", "Peoria." Nuff-Bob says check it out."
